Welcome to the Watson Estate
Nestled on 42 acres in the scenic Laurel Highlands of western Pennsylvania, the Watson Estate is just 45 miles from Pittsburgh, conveniently located off Route 21, west of Uniontown’s city limits in German Township. Our property is only 30 minutes from renowned attractions like Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpieces, Ohiopyle State Park, Overton Village, and other historic landmarks. We’re also less than a mile from the Lakeview wedding venue, making us a perfect retreat for any occasion.
The land was originally known as Watson’s Choice, named after a 325-acre land grant awarded for service in the French & Indian War, which began at Jumonville—just 20 minutes from here. John Watson purchased the land in 1769 for about $60! Over the years, the property has grown to include a tasting room, café, and the charming Hayloft Barn event center, all built shortly after the original settlement.
The estate’s original brick home (Watson’s Choice), now known as the Watson Estate House, was constructed in the early 1800s and underwent its first remodel in the early 1900s, adding distinctive gables to match the neighboring home where John Watson and his family once lived and farmed. Today, that neighboring home is Watson’s Woodland Manor, a beautifully restored Airbnb.
In 2012, we expanded the estate with the addition of the Harvest House and two cozy cottages. Built using reclaimed materials, these structures were designed to reflect the timeless charm and craftsmanship of the original buildings.
Whether you’re visiting for history, relaxation, or a special event, the Watson Estate offers an unforgettable experience rich in heritage and hospitality.
